Midwife vs. Doula | Tennessee Family Doulas

No, this is not a Netflix show where young women come blazing in on their bikes and flowy red capes

( “Call The Midwife”)

we are Doulas...we are Different.

When people ask what we do and we say, “we are Doulas,” they often reply with, “oh yeah, like a Midwife.”

No, sorry, no it's not the same...but it’s an honest misunderstanding.

We know many people don’t know the difference, which is why we are here to set it straight!

Midwives are healthcare providers. You can choose to have a midwife actually deliver your baby.

Doulas are about preparation, education, and support during prenatal, birth, and postpartum time periods.

For example, our services describe exactly what we do for our families.

Childbirth Education

Labor Support

Postpartum Support

Placenta Encapsulation

We love midwives! We work with midwives when families choose to use them for delivery.

You can absolutely have a midwife AND a doula because we do completely different things!

But at the end of the day, both doulas and midwives want to provide the same thing. An amazing experience for the families during an exciting time in their lives. This includes physical and mental health for the entire family!

Let us know if you have more questions about the difference between midwives and doulas!

We're happy to help navigate what might be a confusing comparison!

As doulas, we’re here to help build comfort for all the stages of pregnancy, birth, and newborns.

From planning stages, during pregnancy, and the postpartum stages.

Tennessee Family Doulas, located in Franklin, TN is a doula agency committed to creating calm and comfort for parents and newborns. From education to placenta encapsulation, our services are built to assist in all phases of birth and postpartum.
